A new script

I'm just finishing up all of my portfolio work.  It has completly taken over my life for the past few months.  Things that I normally do, like watching movies, have been put aside for too long.  As I start submitting everything, I will post my pieces here.

This is a script that I just wrote, and I sorta like it.  There's something lovely about it. The name is Kiss the Cook.

INT. Kitchen, Late Afternoon

There is a green door on the side of the kitchen.  Inside the kitchen being all of the normal appliances like a fridge, blender, microwave etc. Light spills in from a big window over the sink.  There stands CHARLOTTE, 25, washing dishes.  She has her hair up in a bun, wearing an autumn dress and has on a messy pink apron.  Sitting near the sink is a ring holder with an Engagement Ring in it.

The cuckoo clock hanging chimes 5 times.  Charlotte moves a piece of hair from her face, looks out the window and smiles.  MASON, 26, rings the door bell.  He is dressed like he has just come from the office.  He has a matching brief case.  Charlotte wipes her hand with a towel on the stove handle and then answers the door.

Charlotte
Good Afternoon.

Mason walks in and kisses Charlotte as he passes her.  He takes off his coat and places it on the chair.

MASON
What's for dinner?

CHARLOTTE
Pot-roast.  I got home late today, could you set the table?

MASON
In a minute, I gotta change.

Mason walks out of the kitchen and towards the bedroom.  Charlotte sighs and looks at the oven.  She then looks at the timer to the left of the oven.

The Bell Rings.  Charlotte looks in at the oven again.

CHARLOTTE
(To Mason)
I got it.

Charlotte goes to the door, opens it and see's a traveling SALESMAN.

Salesman
Good evening.

CHARLOTTE
Good evening.

Charlotte looks back over her shoulder to the door where Mason left.  She then looks back to the Salesman.

SALESMAN
Would you be interested in buy some new kitchen supplies?

CHARLOTTE
Yes.  I don't have the time, could you please come back tomorrow morning.  My husband is not a fan...

Charlotte is about to close the door, when Mason catches her shoulders stopping her.

MASON
You can go and cook, I'll take care of this.

Mason is now in jeans and a tee-shirt and he turns Charlotte away from the door.  Charlotte goes back to her oven, opens the door, the food is still raw, closes the door, then goes to the fridge and gets ingredients for a salad.

MASON
Now what are ya selling?

SALESMAN
Kitchen Supplies, bathroom supplies, all the supplies you could ever need.

MASON
We already have all the 'supplies' we need.

SALESMAN
What about some towels?

MASON
We have them.

SALESMAN
Blankets?

MASON
Got them.

SALESMAN
How about a new apron for your gal.

MASON
Wife.

Charlotte perks her head up from her salad making.

CHARLOTTE
I could use a new apron Mason.

Mason gives her a look.

CHARLOTTE
This one is covered in sauce.

Charlotte walks over to Mason.

CHARLOTTE
Please.  This one is embarrassingly dirty.  It can be my birthday gift.

Charlotte looks into Mason's eyes.

MASON
Would you come in.

The Salesman comes in and sits at the counter.  He opens a big binder.

SALESMAN
Aprons.  I got a load of aprons.  Looky here.  Green aprons, blue aprons, aquamarine aprons.

Charlotte and Mason peer through the book.

MASON
How about that pink one.

SALESMAN
A very wise choice, one of my best sellers.

CHARLOTTE
I'd like something different?  Maybe something green.

SALESMAN
Different is good, different is better.  Why not look at my new sample.

The Salesman goes into his bag and pulls out an apron which has Kiss the Cook written on it.

SALESMAN
This is the best seller.  (wink)  I could even give you this one if you'd like.

MASON
I still like the pink one.

CHARLOTTE
I think this one's nice.

Charlotte looks at the price tag hanging off and her eyes pop.  Charlotte pulls Mason close to her.

CHARLOTTE
(Whispers)
Things are tight, I'll just get the pink one instead.

MASON
If you like this one, get this one.

CHARLOTTE
But it's expensive.

MASON
And you deserve it.

Mason rubs her tummy and Charlotte smiles.  While the two share that moment, the Salesman steals Charlotte's ring from the counter.

MASON
We'll take the apron.

Mason reaches into his back pocket and pulls out the wallet.  He looks around through the singles for a twenty dollar bill.  He pulls out the bill and hands it to the Salesman.

MASON
Here.

SALESMAN
Thank you.  Thank you very much.  I gotta go, these aprons won't sell themselves

The Salesman grabs his binder and picks up his bag.  Charlotte looks at the ring holder, which is empty.

CHARLOTTE
My ring!

The Salesman tries to leave, but is stopped at the door by Mason.

Mason
You're not going anywhere.

CHARLOTTE
Let him go, I doubt he took it.

SALESMAN
I could give you a great deal on a ring.

The Salesman pulls out Charlotte's ring.

SALESMAN
I'll sell this to you for a real steal.

  1. Quite a fun, strange, script. Nicely written and well plotted. Excellent. Would love it if you shot this...?
