The Project

Like most Americans, on Sunday I watched the Superbowl.  Yet I use the term loosely because I didn't actually watch football.  I watched all the commercials.  There is so much that you can learn about America and what appeals to consumers, and you can also learn what fails miserably.

My personal favorite was the Clydesdale Horse Commercial (Budweiser).

The most disgusting, yet memorable, commercial was the was the one with Danica Patrick.  The noise was just disgusting.

Anyway, what I really wanted to talk about was the project.  Luke said yesterday that we need a project which we can work on at any time.  As a senior waiting to hear back from colleges and programs, the most beneficial thing that I can do is research.  Most of my interviews have asked about favorite films and directors.  I do know this stuff, but I need to know more.

Specifics are better then generalities at this point.

Every Tuesday I go to the movies, and hopefully today, with the snow, will be no different.  Good movies are helpful yet bad ones are just as beneficial.  Knowing what is wrong with a film is just as important as knowing what is right.  Learning to catch mistakes and learning what not to do has helped me tremendously in making movies.  The only way to learn how to make movies is to watch movies and make movies.

My project will be researching more about film.  Over the next month I want to watch the Hitchcock collection and learn more about him and about the movies.  For Christmas I got the fifteen movie set, yet the player was messed up (the thing thought it was in Germany!)  Now, after buying a new player, the movies work.  The first movie I want to watch is Psycho, so that way I will be able to understand the movie Hitchcock, which just came out this year.

I'm also ordering some movies off of Barnes and Nobles this week.  Good movies under 5 dollars is always nice.  ( 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Prisoner Collection, Serendipity)
